Is it normal for hotels.com to charge me for a room I booked 3 mos from now?
I made a reservation in July on hotels.com for an October trip. They already charged my credit card when I haven't been near the hotel yet! Is this normal? I don't want to pay interest on my hotel stay on my credit card but I'll be damned if I pay for a hotel in full before I've stayed there.
They have to secure the price somehow. These rates are cheap and if they just let people book and not pay, how are they supposed to make money? What if you never show up and forget to cancel? This could of been a room they could of sold to someone else. If you don't want to be charged for the room yet, you might just call the hotel directly and make reservations that way. Then again, they might even charge since it is so far in advance.
