i am on doxyclycline in thailand and having gum probloems help !~!!?

hi
i am travelling in thailand with my partner and we are both taking doxyclycline as malaria medication. unfortunately she is suffering with sore gums - ulcers on either side of her gums and generally feeling unwell. been told she might be better off on malarone but 1. dont know where to get it and 2. we are going to cambodia and vietnam so in total she needs medication for 7 weeks but you can only take malarone for a month? can anyone help or tell us if the painful mouth is from the doxy? she is eating and drinking plenty of water when she takes them. its causing problems for our holiday as she os feeling generally pretty unwell and unable to go out to eat. thanks alot

You are supposed to stop using Doxycycline if you have serious side effects from it.

I've spent many weeks in north-east Thailand close to the border with Cambodia without taking any antimalarial medication. I've been bitten by mosquitoes every day. And I didn't get any malaria infection.

Perhaps your partner would be better off if she stops taking Doxycycline.

But Cambodia may have more of a problem with malaria. And perhaps you should consider avoiding travel to Cambodia, if you partner stops taking antimalarial medication.
