backpacking SE Asia....How much will I need!?

I am planning on backpacking SE Asia mainland (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, China and Vietnam) for 12-15 weeks. I plan on traveling on the bare minimum/on a budget.

I plan on using the trains and public buses to get around and eat local foods and stay in hostels to cut cost.

How much will I need to back pack for this time period in this area of the world and still come back with an unforgettable experience? In addition, on average what can I expect to pay for a flight there? Any/all recommendations/tips appreciated!!!

I usually budget for $2,000 (£1,000) when I travel around South East Asia, but I'll also take a credit card with me as back up in case things get tough or I want to do something expensive!
