Travel Agents

Are Travel Agents Necessary?

The internet has made it accessible for many to book their own travel online.  There are so many resources available that makes travel research a cinch.  The main objective is to find the best deal, well if you are looking for more than planes, rental cars or a few nights at a hotel a travel agent could be helpful!

Some may avoid Travel Agents because they think will be charged a fee for their services.  That could not be further than the truth!  Travel Agent commissions are already built-in the prices you see online or are quoted from your agent.

When you look-up a price online for a vacation, the price will include the cost of the trip and any commissions the agent would get, the difference between going to a travel agent or booking it yourself is your giving the commission to someone else (either Expedia, Travelocity, etc) instead of to your agent.

If you come across an agent that charges an additional fee for services RUN

Here are 3 instances when you would want to use a travel agent:

1.       Customize Vacation Destinations

Travel agents, depending on where they specialize, will know how and where to get the best travel deals.  So if you are looking for a week long Orlando getaway and you know your agent specialized in Orlando Destinations, you may want to let him or her tailor a vacation that caters to your family.

Using a travel professional for group travel is especially important.  Does your group require special needs, tours, dinner arrangements, attraction tickets, etc?  What about destination weddings or honeymoons.  Your wedding coordinator may be able to offer suggestion, but a travel professional who specialized in this area would be better suited to assist you with planning for you and your guests?

Customized vacation packages, event and group trip planning are areas where you definitely want to seek the help of an agent.

2.       Cruises

About 85% of cruises are sold through travel agents. Customers want the expertise of a travel agent and are reluctant to buy cruises on their own. Also many people plan their cruises a head of time with their family and friends which would require a travel agent to assist with customized group planning.

3.       Tours

It's estimated that 85% of all tours are sold through travel agents. There are different tour conductors that specialize in different types of tours.  Not all tours companies are created equal, therefore, Travel Agents may be helpful with selecting a touring company that fits your vacation destination and desired tour experience.

Use Travel Agents – It Will Not Cost You More

Now that you know that the cost to use an agent will not be over the price you are quoted for your vacation, do not hesitate to use one.  Agents can book your trip in advance coordinate deposits and payments, which are things you cannot do online.

Using an experienced Travel Agent offers a piece of mind and convenience to any traveler. If your agent cares about repeat business and referrals, which most do, your trip will be planned with the utmost care, with your agent exploring all options to make your trip a memorable, yet budget friendly event!
