Really depends what hotel you are staying, what kind of food you take and whether you'll be buying a lot of stuffs. There're surely some very cheap hostels in Hong Kong, say around HK$120 per night which can be found in large residential/commercial complex located in Tsimshatsui, Wanchai and Causeway Bay. You can also eat in MacDonald's or noodle shops for less than HK$30 a meal. You'll save even more if you buy loafs of bread and jam/butter from supermarkets for around HK$50-60 and can last for days. Many supermarkets or 7Eleven opens 24/7 and can easily be found on almost every street. Take the tram or star ferry wherever possible for only HK$2 per ride, then try doing walking where tram doenst go. The above living will be very cheap if you do not shop expensive stuffs.

If you enjoy sea, go to Lantau Island or one of the outlying islands by taking a ferry from Central. Life on the islands are very different from the hustling bustling city core. You could also take No 6 bus from the Centrl bus terminal which takes you all the way to Stanley street market passing along the winding road along seacoast and the dwellings of the richest people including US Consul General's residence. Stop over in Repulse Bay on the way to enjoy some of the colonial architecture,
