is it safe to travel to laos, vietnam and cambodia with a 3 year old?

we're considering travelling to vietnam, laos and cambodia with our 3 year old son, has anyone travelled there with kids and is it safe? thanks!

The truth is that it is not safe to travel in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia with a toddler in tow.

There are lots of insurgencies going on in Laos, there are lots of unexploded bomb fields in Vietnam, and getting sick in Cambodia is a hard time for both of you.

If it is Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, or Indonesia, I would've answered yes because these nations are quite developed in some sense of the word, and do have FIrst World amenities in their cities, but sadly, it cannot be said in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

True, the Vietnamese, Lao, and Khmer people are so fond of children and will keep them happy and in company, but what if something happens? There are no ultra-modern hospitals in Hanoi, Vientiane, or Phnom Penh for that matter. Add the complications of transporting a sick toddler to the nearest modern city (Bangkok or Hong Kong) which is not only 1000 kilometers away but also currently beseiged by the H1N1 Virus.

Also, with a kid as young as yours, you really won't be able to enjoy the scenery, as you will be sticking to the tourist trail and be minding him all the time, like warding off mosquitoes and all that.

Add to that the probability that you might inadvertently introduce the virus to these nations - where millions would surely die because of lack of proper medical care.

Travel to Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia is best deferred until your toddler is already a teen - or at least a pre-teen (like 10 years old).
