Backpacking Vietnam Hanoi?
I'm thrilled to backpack Vietnam! I'll be there for ten days and traveling in big group(7 of us) and i want to make this an enjoyable one. Have been planning to backpack Hanoi - Ha Long - Sapa. Is there a better and more interesting place worth the visit? A heli ride to Ha Long will be nice and i would be grateful if a local from Vietnam can suggest me, routes to take, hostel/hotel to stay, do's and don'ts.
I'm considering renting a scooter, or car. I do not have a motorcycle license though i do carry a class 3 Singapore license, is it still possible to bike on the road? Since language might be a barrier, is there any agency that supplies tour guide(must be fun people to be with).
I gotta go with the majority on this one...get a local guide.
Yes, you can rent a motorbike from some of the tour companies, but if you have no experience with Vietnam traffic FORGET IT. Let me repeat that just to be clear... if you haven't driven in Vietnam before, FORGET IT.

Next, a "heli" ride to Ha Long Bay? Are you a millionaire because if not, forget it. The cost is ridiculous.
Yes, there are MANY agencies which can supply tour guides and rent you a bike. Check the Internet.
