Veterans? What should I write to the troops? Class Assignment?

In my english class we are putting together packages to send to the troops for the holidays and we are also are enclosing a letter to a specific troop, but i just don't know what to write!!!! I'm a senior in High School and i feel like every english class i've been in since 5th grade has done this during the holidays which is great i completely support the troops but every time i write one of these i write about the same stupid things and ask the same dumb questions like what's the weather like and and stuff like that lol... My class has been studying about war and we've also been comparing Vietnam and Afghanistan... so anyways what can i say i want to actually write a good letter and maybe make my soldier happy or at least during the time they are reading my letter lol... thanks so much in advanced!?!?

Write basically what you just wrote here, Explain why you are writing and ask about his job and if there is anything he would like to know. Include a newspaper article or something positive about the troops. Anything that you would normally talk about.
You really need to tell the person who you are and why you are writing. I received a letter from unknowns twice. I answered both because of what they included in the letter.
