Is January a good time to visit Hanoi?
A girlfriend and I are planning to go to Hanoi, Vietnam in January next year. I've been doing research about it but some sites say January is a good time and others say not so I'm a bit confused. If anyone has firsthand knowledge about the weather conditions, please do let me know.
Also, is a daytrip to Halong Bay a good idea (I see that most people stay there a couple of nights )? And would it be safe for two girls to travel there alone (if we go without a tour, I mean)?

i think dec- feb is the coldest windyest time of year in viet nam..much more pleasant to visit ha noi in the fall..it is famous for that [many songs are sung about fall in ha noi].. ha long bay day tour out of ha noi is fine, over night is fine..just how much time do you have and how do you want to spend it..should be your consideration there..maybe take one day tour to ha long and another day go to the pink[maybe "the purple" i forget] pagoda..also a nice day trip out of ha noi..."mai chau vally is a nice overnight trip out of ha noi..safe, in the mts[ mini sapa] and if you have 3-4 days take the trip to sapa..
