Best Hotels In Vietnam

Where is it best to visit Vietnam?

I'm from Singapore and want to visit Vietnam for the first time. Where would I start and what are the best towns and hotels to stay in. I tried China, Guangzohu and it was a place of crooks trying to fleeze me. If you want to visit China, You need to speak Mandarin or it will be hell for you. Well it's the last place on earth I'll visit?

Since you are from a large city already, why not rent a motor-bike and travel the countryside. (or a bicycle for that matter). I see bicyclists all the time when I am back home in Ben Tre.
Let's face it, one big city is pretty much like any other, although Singapore is by far the cleanest I've been to.
You can buy a phrase book at any bookstore and then travel the country and see the real beauty of Vietnam. Spend a day or two in Saigon (for example), see the sights, and then head north to Nha Trang or south to Ha Tien. The trip on a motor bike would take a full day if you went flat out, but if you stretch it out and enjoy the sights, it can take a week or more.
There are many sights to see in Vietnam that are not in guide books or listed on maps. One of my favorite places is the dusty village square in Phu Tuan where we board a ferry to get to one of our properties. I can sit there for hours drinking iced coffee and talking (with my wife's help) to our neighbors.
There are thousands of little villages, temples, churches and markets to see off the beaten path and the Viets are incredibly kind and helpful.
Although it may seem a bit overwhelming for a first trip, it is certainly safe enough and economical to do.
What-ever you decide,,, Bon Voyage!
