Have you travelled to Vietnam?
I'm planning on volunteering for a month in Hanoi and then spending three weeks seeing as much of the country as I can. Do you think I should focus on Northern and Central Vietnam on this trip (Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Hoi An, Hue), or should I travel to the Mekong Delta as well? It would be easier for me to stay closer to Hanoi for those three weeks, since I'll be getting a return flight from Hanoi - but do you think it would be a waste not to see the South/Saigon?
Also, I'll be a solo woman traveller, so do you have any tips on where I shouldn't go in Vietnam? And what were your favourite cities?
Sorry, I realize I asked a lot of questions - but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If you plan to stay for a month, I would advise to make a choice :
Either Ha Noi and the Red River Basin with a touch of Central Viet Nam, especially Hue which is amazing with monuments, food and hand crafts, a refined way of living.
Or Ha Noi and the mountains in the North towards the Chinese borders with a myriad of minorities.
I really do not think it would be practical to plan to visit the South with Saigon and the Mekong Basin this time.
My favorite cities were Ha Noi and Hue.
If you do not fear real travelling, I think it would be interesting to take the train between Ha Noi and Hue, at least in one way. The landscape is amazing. Please make a reservation on first class carriage and don't trust food and beverage on the train.
