Does anyone remember the title of this movie? Plane in some strange dimension..?

I think I saw it about 15 years ago, I must have been 7-8 yrs old, so I don't really remember much about it. So it must be from de 80's or early 90's.
What I remember are some scenes, where passengers where in a plane, and it got attacked by "flying balls" lol, some sort of "meatballs".. i know it sounds wierd, but that's what I remember, and they where destroying or eating the plane, and other scene is that the passengers get to a lonely place, something like that, where they can't find other humans.
It would be awesome if someone remembers this movie, cause it's been on my mind for years to find out the title. Thanks!
