What's the cheapest way to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi (Vietnam)?

Hi, I'm right now planning a trip to Vietnam and I've realized that the only way to get cheap flights to the country is buying a round-trip arriving and departing from the same city (Hanoi); so it would be great to spend all the days traveling city to city all the way down to Ho Chi Minh City, and then get back to Hanoi the day before the plane departure.

So, what do you think is the cheapest way from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi non-stop? Any recommended bus or train? Thanks!

cheapest would definitely be by bus. But if you want a little more comfort, I'd go with train.

Also, there are hop-on hop-off sleeper busses that travel the length of Vietnam. I believe I paid $45 and got 5 stops. That's the best, cheapest way to travel the length of Vietman, and what most backpackers tend to do. There are different companies that sell these tickets, so do your research. And best of all the busses are sleepers, as many of these segments will be overnight trips. I found the beds on the bus to be pretty comfortable. Not a bad way to travel.

Also, I don't know your age, but if you are from 18-30, Hanoi Backpackers is the place to go. Trust me.
