North Vietnam Tour

Are there recommendable Vietnam tours available?

I have a month off. Anyone know of any good ones to recommend?

I'm also interested in North Vietnam or war history tours as well. I'm not sure if the major sites are open for the public (e.g. Khe Sanh) Anybody knowledgeable can provide some info on Vietnam tours these days?

Northern Vietnam has Hanoi and from there you can organize tours to the Sapa hill tribes but i strongly suggest you get a tour through Halong Bay for a couple of nights. Halong bay tours usually include all transportation including the traditional junk, kayaking, bike riding and accommodation somewhere in Halong Bay. Both tours cost me $50us each and well worth it.
If your interested in some sights from the Vietnam war then down south in Saigon has tours to the underground tunnel networks. Here you see first hand how real the war was. There are huge bomb craters everywhere, tanks covered in bullet marks, shrapnel embedded into the ground and with the rifle range firing away in the background it adds a bit of atmosphere. You can try all sorts of weaponary used in the war there and climb through the tunnel networks. Not far from there is the war museum and its not for the faint hearted. Its here you see the Vietnam side of the war with gore pictures, fetus's in jars affected by agent orange and an arrange of gear such as fighter planes etc.

If you wish to see both, its fairly cheap to fly from north to south or a sleeper train. The best part of my travels through Vietnam would have to be Halong Bay. By the way you will save mega amounts if you were to organise your tours locally once there and in the long run you will see twice as much for half the price as organised tours from flight centres.
