questions on being a travel agent?
i always had an interest of being a travel agent. i have experience in travelling to places such as california, new york, florida, hawaii, england, bc, alberta, ontario, china, vietnam, italy, mexico, st.lucia etc, i was wonder how much you get paid per year, month and hour? how much vacations time? what current high school and post secondary education/courses (im currently in grade 9), what are some experiences had as a travel agent, and some extra information would be nice. thank you in advance for your help.
My wife was a travel agent for several years and she really loved it. However, things have changed, and being a travel agent is not at all what it use to be.
The biggest problem is that the airlines have ceased paying commissions to travel agents. My wife estimates that airlines commissions accounted for around fifty percent of her income. Now some tour companies pay commissions as well as cruise companies and some hotels but the money just isn't there.
Most travel agencies didn't pay high wages to it's agents. The big perk was in the free and discount travel an agent could expect. Now that is gone with the airlines as well.
My recommendation is to get a job with an airlines if you want to get into the travel industry. You will make pretty good money, and get good travel discounts too.
Good luck to you.
