Traveling alone - Minimum age for south-east asia?

Hey i am from iceland so my English could be a little fuzzy... But i got a question, Now that i am 17 years old i want to travel for 2-3 months around vietnam/thailand in Jan/feb. But i want to know if they will let me enter the country alone and not with adults and if i will be able to book rooms at a hostel or a hotel? (backpacking btw)

And if anyone has been to these countries it would be awesome to hear from you and i could ask you some things i have in mind!

Thanks!

Add me on msn : dadi316@hotmail.com if you have backpacked there and like to share some story's with me
And i need to know in what city's its nice to land

If you are intending to travel alone in south-east asia, i recommend you malaysia, or singapore. this two are english speaking countries....
Thailand and vietnam are not. they do speak english, but it is the minority.
I can guarantee you that, in malaysia, even a 2 star hotel, hostel, or chalet receptionist can speak in english. you can search for hotels in the area on the internet. please mention the age. I think it is permissible because hotels here mostly do not have casinos.
food hawkers by the road also speak english, but not fluently.
you can fly in direct to KLIA, Malaysia or Singapore via London, daily. Alone and 17 would not be a problem, i guess, just mention you are a tourist, and you will be let through.
Malaysia would be more suitable for backpacking. along the east coast of West Malaysia. Tropical climate. Hot and wet.
I know you are trying to escape the freezing temperatures in your country during that time. Enjoy your holidays.
