Travelling from Vietnam to Thailand though Cambodia?
Can I get a train through Cambodia From Vietnam to Thailand? What is the best rail line and where abouts in Cambodia can I stop off for a bit of sightseeing??
Currently there is no train between Thailand and Vietnam.
The railway on the Cambodian territory is under construction with the Japanese / Chinese investment.
They promise to put the Phnom Penh - Thai border line into operation in 2012, Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville in May 2011. The line from Phnom Penh to Vietnam is still under discussion, so the timings are still unclear.
You can travel through Cambodia on a bus from the Thai border to Saigon via Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. You MUST stop at Siem Reap and spend there AT LEAST 2-3 days to see the Angkor temples. And you MAY want to spend a day or two at Phnom Penh - that would be more than enough.
Another way is to take a plane from BKK to Siem Reap, from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, from Phnom Penh to Saigon. Or BKK - Siem reap, Siem Reap - Saigon, your call.
