Is it possible to store your luggage at the station at Hoi An and Dong Hoi?

We are traveling to Vietnam July 2-11 and will fly into HCMC and out of Hanoi. We would like to take the train from HCMC to Da Nang, spend the day in Hoi An and then continue on train to Dong Hoi, spend the day at the Phong Nha and then travel the rest of the way to Hanoi. We will have regular suitcases with us as this is a vacation before business in Phnom Penh. Is there a way to store luggage at the train stations? Should we hire drivers for the days we are in Hoi An and Phong Nha? Thanks

There is no way to store luggage at the train stations without getting everything stolen. The only option you might have is to stay in at least a three star hotel and make arrangements with the manager. However, I still strongly advise taking everything with you.

Hoi An is small enough to walk on foot without much of an issue and certainly without the need of a driver. You can catch a tourist bus from Hoi An to visit Phong Nha and save yourself a bundle on a private driver.

If you really want a driver, I would advise making arrangements with Mai Linh (the green taxis). Mai Linh is the most popular taxi and transportation service in Vietnam. They have a private car service using seasoned drivers instead of just someone who happens to own a car in Vietnam. Buy their coupon book, which will give you a discount on taxi service.
