Sandy Beach Resort
We are visiting Myrtle Beach in October....2 adults?
I have always had good luck on yahoo answers! Hopefully someone here can give me some tips, things to do, restaurants, and the most important golf courses. We are venturing to Myrtle Beach in October 6th-13th and are staying at the Sandy Beach Resort.
Anything we should definitely check out? or not? Do youhave a favorite restaurant close by? Would you suggest we rent a car or would we be OK just walking everywhere? Have a favorite golf course or two? Museums?
We are clueless and booked it on a whim. Before I research on my own I like to check out what other people suggest....makes for a more interesting trip!
thanks so much for any info and suggestions!!
First things first - Myrtle Beach has plenty of interesting things to do, but it will be easier to get to some of them (IE - Medieval Times, Dixie Stampede, Barefoot Landing) from where you're staying if you rent a car. So go ahead and consider doing that.
There's plenty of good restaurants in the area...some local, some part of chains. If you're looking for a fun time and don't mind being ribbed a little by your waiter, definitely check out Dick's Last Resort at Barefoot Landing. If you're looking for a good local Italian restaurant, Rossi's is usually pretty good. Cagney's on Restaurant Row is a great restaurant, but is expensive - the same is true for most restaurants on Restaurant Row.
The main "tourist" hotspots in the area are usually pretty clearly marked - Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, Coastal Grand Mall. If you're looking for more of a "small town" type experience where you can sort of roam around and experience more of the local culture, I'd suggest driving into Conway and wandering around the Historic Downtown area for a little while - there's some really cool stuff hidden in there, plus the Horry County Museum (which is unfortunately pretty small) is located on Main Street there.
I'm not much into golf, personally - except for putt-putt. However, MB being the "golf capital of the world" and all, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find something to your liking.
Some traffic tips for driving: weekend late mornings through afternoons are usually pretty bad traffic-wise. You'll also be here during the public school session, so watch out for traffic before 8:30am. Don't be afraid to grab a map and learn some quick shortcuts - SC 31 and 22 are two relatively new highways that, if you can get to them, should aid your travel time as they can pretty much get you where ever you need to go in Horry County.
Hope this at least gets you started, let me know if I can help further!

Enjoy Your Florida Vacation at Cocoa Beach Resorts
Florida is a popular destination for tourists, but certain areas are better than others. For families, being near Disney World is key, but if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, look at Cocoa Beach resorts or an Amelia Island hotel. These are two areas that allow you to really relax, with plenty of beach to hang out on and lots of activities nearby. With Florida being such a popular place to go, it's rare to find gems like Amelia Island and Cocoa Beach, where you can truly vacation and let your worries just slip away.Amelia Island- Hotels, Restaurants and BeachAmelia Island is the ultimate beach island. It's literally like being in the middle of the tropics . . . except you don't even need to leave the United States. This means you can enjoy the comforts of home, speaking your own language and dealing with a currency that you are familiar with, while feeling like you're in Fiji! There are beautiful beaches on Amelia Island, hotel after hotel line the sand, overlooking the waves. Since the weather in Florida is almost always mild, you don't need to worry too much about rain or poor weather. You can pretty much guarantee that your time there will be spent on the sunny beach. That being said, even when it storms, this is an impressive spot to stay. From within your Amelia Island hotel, you'll be able to look out over the stormy ocean, something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives. When you stay at an Amelia Island hotel, you get the tranquility of this little beach island, but you still have easy access to cafes, restaurants, bars and discos and even small shopping areas where you can pick up souvenirs for those back home. Cocoa Beach Resorts for Relaxation and FunCocoa Beach resorts are just as they sound, on the beach where you can enjoy seaside vistas and lots of suntanning time. There are more than enough water sports to keep you busy your entire stay, from paragliding to kayaking and deep sea fishing. It's a beautiful spot to stay, yet off the beaten track enough to be unique. At Cocoa Beach, resorts aren't the only thing you will find. You will be able to dine out at a different restaurant every night, head to the bars in the evening and dance your nights away in the beachside nightclubs. There's plenty of peace and quiet, if that's what you're seeking, but there are also lots of lovely places to just enjoy yourself out on the town. Cocoa Beach is the perfect blend of the two words. This area is fairly laid back but Cocoa Beach does come to life after dark. During the day, stroll along the boardwalk, enjoy snacks and sandwiches in the tiny cafes and shops that line the beach. Buy your souvenirs and enjoy some time just kicking around in the sand or getting wet in the warm water. At night, the fine dining places open, nightclub DJs get spinning and the entire area comes alive. This is also the perfect time for a romantic stroll on the beach, if you are staying with a special someone. Cocoa Beach is the perfect honeymoon or anniversary getaway spot, with plenty of activities to keep everyone busy and happy, and some very romantic places to chill out together. Whether you choose to stay in an Amelia Island hotel or at one of the many Cocoa Beach resorts, you're bound to enjoy yourself in Florida. This is a destination state for good reason. From gorgeous weather to elegant hotels, beaches and fine dining, this is the ideal place to stay whether on a solo vacation or with your entire family.

Hua Hin: A fantastic beach resort town
No visit to Thailand is complete without a trip to the beautiful resort beaches of Hua Hin. Located 200 miles south of Bangkok, Hua Hin is one of the oldest and most popular sandy destinations in the country.
While many of the other beach resorts in Thailand – including Phuket and Samui – have been over developed and overrun with tourist hotels and restaurants, Hua Hin has retained its traditional charm as both a resort and a working fishing village.
The beach is over five miles long and surrounded by some of the best, yet least expensive, golf courses in the entire world. The city itself was discovered more than 80 years ago by King Rama VII. He chose the place as his home away from home when he wanted to escape the heat and humidity of the capital city.
Once King Rama built his palace in what had up until that point been a fishing village, other Siam nobility were soon to follow – which fueled the growth and popularity of Hua Hin.
The king's palace – called Klai Kangwon, which means “Far From Worries” - remains an official royal residence and popular attraction to this day. Public tours are easy to arrange – even when members of the royal family are staying there!
Be careful outside the palace, however, because security is very tight and any type of public intoxication or other bad behavior near the palace is dealt with very strictly by the local police officers.
While the main tourist activity is to lie out on the sandy beach and have locals bring your drinks or provide massages, there are sites to see when you've decided you've had your fill of fun in the sun.
Most of the wealthiest families in Thailand have built their summer homes near the palace or on the beach, which means there is beautiful architecture to see as you stroll around and explore Hua Hin.
Khao Takiap is a large hill that is filled with beautiful Buddhist temples and offers the best overhead view of the city, the port and the ocean. It is a four-kilometer hike, so you may want to rent a bike or motorcycle to take you to the top.
The Hua Hin railway station is one of the oldest stations in Thailand and is so beautiful that it is considered one of the country's landmarks.
The Spirit Houses of Brassiere Beach has a really odd history. Legend has it that the daughter of a local fisherman was eaten by fish because she was too beautiful to live in the world. Today, men and women leave brasseries on the beach in order to ask the gods for good luck.
Namtok Pa Lau is an 11-tier waterfall located about 30 miles outside of town. It is easy to get to by bus, and is particularly popular on hot and humid days.
Wat Huay Mongkol was where famed monk Luang Phor Thuat lived his life. He was known for performing miracles and his former residence is now a large public park featuring a giant statue of him as its centerpiece.
At night Hua Hin comes alive with a large open-air market where you can buy nearly anything under the moon, and see what types of interesting fish and fruits the locals like to eat. You can also sample any of the many excellent seafood restaurants that surround the market.
If you want to sample local products, look for things made from Khommaphat, which is a type of cotton unique to the Hua Hin region. They use it to make everything from shirts to large decorative pieces of art.
The one downside of Hua Hin is that it does not have as active a nightlife culture as the other beach resort towns in Thailand. Your best bet is to hit the Soi Bintabaht and Soi Selakam areas where you can find local beer bars. By royal decree, there are no go-go bars in town.
Hua Hin has three important regional festivals, including:
- The Thailand’s International Kite Festival is held from March through May in Hua Hin during even numbered years. It features stunt kites, big kites, little kites, high tech kites, traditional Thai kites, and displays of international kites.
- Hua Hin Jazz Festival is held through the month of June on the beach. It attracts world-class Jazz musicians and is considered one of the most popular events in Hua Hin.
- Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally. Sponsored by Vintage Car Club of Thailand and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the car rally is held every December. All of the cars in the rally are vintage from the 1920s, in celebration of when the King discovered the city.
Getting to Hua Hin is easy from nearly any part of Thailand. It is hooked up to most of the major rail lines and you can get a direct train from Bangkok. There are also several bus routes from both Bangkok and Malaysia.
Overall, the weather is temperate. There is a brief rainy season in the spring, but the showers tend to be very short and are often over in five minutes or less – so you can get right back to the sun and fun!
You will notice that there are many, many more Thai tourists in Hua Hin than in the other national beach resorts. While westerners do come to Hua Hin, there are far fewer of them here than in Phuket or any of the other beach towns.
This leads to a certain charm, because Hua Hin has yet to be completely corrupted by tourists - and you can feel like you are having a very authentic Thailand vacation experience!
So, next time you are in Thailand, hop on the train and check out the beautiful beaches, waterfalls and temples of Hua Hin. Consider it a royal experience!
You'll be glad you did!

Vietnam Beach Holiday
The Best Beach Holiday Destinations In Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches and luxury resorts. So whether you're in the process of organising your Bali accommodation or if you are still deciding on your itinerary, we've listed 4 of Southeast Asia's best beaches you don't want to miss.
Tanjung Rhu-Langkawi, Malaysia
If you are looking for seclusion and privacy this cove is one of the most private beaches you'll see in Southeast Asia. Like something from a postcard, this wide beach features soft sand and palm trees with deep blue waters perfect if you like to swim. Because this beach only has one resort, you'll be guaranteed privacy and space to enjoy the beautiful surrounds.
Chaweng Beach-Ko Samui, Thailand
For those who like a beach with a bit more action, Chaweng Beach in Ko Samui, Thailand is just the place. The beach is beautiful with picturesque soft sand and blue waters. Just beyond the sand, you'll find bungalows nestled in the trees. If you feel like exploring, there is a small town behind the beach which boasts great Thai eateries, shops and fun nightlife.
Lombok, Indonesia
Just off the coast of east Bali, the beaches found here also boast privacy and beauty. Depending on the experience you want, there are also beaches in Lombok that have stretches of shops and venues for you to explore. With clear aqua blue water and pure white sand you'll think you're in paradise. Just a stone's throw from Bali, it's the perfect place for a romantic escape or a holiday of peace and complete relaxation.
Senggigi Beach is the main tourist town and beach in Lombok. For a more secluded experience a visit to East Lombok would be more suited. It is less developed and lets you take a peek at rural life in Indonesia.
For a more adventurous experience, visit the Mount Rinjani National Park. Mount Rinjani is an active volcano that makes for a spectacular place to visit. The sights are breath-taking and it's not hard to see why local people revere the mountain as a sacred place.
Not matter what type of holiday your planning, it's definitely worth factoring in a visit to Lombok when organising your Bali trip.
Mui Ne Beach- Phan Thiet, Vietnam
This is the latest getaway destination in Vietnam. Just a few hours for Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne Beach offers visitors gorgeous white sand and incredible resort accommodation. There is a wonderful golf course here too and because the town of Phan Thiet is a fishing town you can expect delicious seafood on offer. It would be worth going on the day trips to surrounding areas while visiting as there are some amazing sights to see such as giant sand dunes and quaint surrounding fishing villages.
So whether you're in the process of booking Bali hotels for your trip or you're just getting started, consider perhaps the idea of extending your holiday to be able to take in the beauty of all of Southeast Asia's amazing beaches.

Beach Hoi An
Nhat Le beach – a fascinating seaside landscape-Vietnam Beach
Overall view
Still, on your supposed North-East journey, it’s quite easy to realize Dong Hoi, a nice small town of Quang Binh province alongside Nhat Le River. You may see a nearby beautiful beach, named Nhat Le, and a green Bao Ninh peninsula full of coconut tree shadows & fishing boats on the other riverside, making a fresh water-color painting. After only ten-minute drive across the river bridge, you now have a chance to relax yourself in a magnificent fairy landscape of beach, long-lasting sand banks, blue sky, blue sea, and green coconut tree rows!
Climate
Dong Hoi in general and Nhat Le in particular have a monsoon tropical climate with two seasons, dry and rainy ones. Average temperature is 24.6oC, with the lowest of 7.7oC in January, and the highest of 42.2oC in June. The average humidity is 83%/year. In the scorching hot days of dry season, Nhat Le beach is considered Vietnam’s Sahara Desert, somehow stimulating travelers.
Let’s take a round trip
Taking a tour to Nhat Le beach, you may enjoy a series of interesting relaxation activities. On arrival, you should take a walk alongside the romantic mirror-like Nhat Le River, and let your soul leisurely “drift” with the rippling river waves, so as to feel a poetic sparkling Nhat Le. The early morning is ideal time to enjoy yourself on the long-lasting sand bank, which is compared to “Sahara Desert of Vietnam” to know how hot and sunny it is in Quang Binh, before dipping into the very cool, fresh and blue sea water.
Not only could you go swimming, but take part in a number of other exciting entertainment types as well. For example, go sand-skating with your friends on nearby sand caverns, boat sailing on the vast clear sea, parachute jumping on the sea, enjoying hundreds of special seafood only found in Vietnam’s central sea zone, and so forth. Believe me, you will soon miss the pure and eventful atmosphere in this beautiful seaside!
Besides, Nhat Le is also famous for a great deal of beautiful cultural activities and historical sight-seeings. After a series of exciting entertainment kinds, tourists may independently travel around Bao Ninh seaside village, joining an interesting fishing festival, listening to the enchanting folk songs, contemplating a traditional gentle dance -“bông chèo c?n ” performed by graceful local girls, or visiting fish, tortoise, and trionychid turtle raising farms west of the town, etc. Nhat Le’s cultural tranquintences may lure you from daily busy thoughts and tensions.
For history explorers, a few minutes should be spent on visiting and praying for Mother Suot Statue right in Bao Ninh sand village), a heroic Mother during Vietnam war. A very moved historical site of enormous significance that worths your visit is the place where Uncle Ho Chi Minh and other Vietnam’s high-ranking politic officials stopped by in 1957 during the war against the US. If you would like to come back to the space of Quang Binh’s heroic war in the gone days, you should visit the old Quang Binh village. This has witnessed the severe but glorious fights of the local Vietnamese, attached to a system of underground houses, kindergartens, schools, health-stations, and so on. Returning from the village, the remained emotion of tourists is the profound admiration to the locals’ struggling spirits, and limitless withstanding.
Tourist activities
- Nhat Le beach: Swimming, sun bathing, boat sailing, sand skating
- Surrounding places of interest:
* Mother Suot Monument
* Quang Binh Historical village

Danang Beach
Explore some UNESCO Sites from Danang as well as Relax in an Equally Historical and Cultural City
Danang is a port city in the South Central Coast of Vietnam, halfway between Hanoi and Saigon. Its surroundings, flanked by the se to its east and mountains on its west makes it a superb headquarters to experience some of Vietnam's natural wonders. What's more, some of the country's famous historical cities are also nearby.
Let's take a closer look at Danang's nearby attractions. About 10 kilometers South of Danang are Marble Mountains, a group of five limestone formations filled with caves and marble crafts depicting mystical creatures and images of Buddha. To further add to the mystical experience, you can climb up one of the mountains (Thuy Mountain) and be treated to superb views of the shoreline and surrounding land.
Not far are the UNESCO sites of My Son and Hoi An. If ruined temples are your thing, then My Son is your place. There are over 70 architectural pieces present at the site. Some have even compared it to great Southeast Asia archaeological sites such as Borodudur in Indonesia, Bagan in Myanmar, Angkor in Cambodia and Ayutthaya in Thailand. And what about a traditional 300-year-old Oriental town? Hoi An will take care of that. The city is also famous for its relaxing beaches as well as its arts and crafts shops.
That is not to say Danang lacks any attractions though. The Cham Museum displays weathered but still highly skilled artistic sculptures of Shiva (an important Hindu God), garudas (mythical bird-like creature), nagas (mythical serpent deity), lions, monkeys, and elephants, many of which were recovered from My Son.
Just off the shore of Danang are the Cham Islands. It is one of Vietnam's popular island escapes featuring coral reefs, quiet sandy bays and limestone formations. The islands are also forested, presenting a wide range of flora and fauna. Some of the world's best bird's nest soup can be found at these islets.
Danang is a great starting point if you want to explore the rich history of Central Vietnam. You can do so with Exotissimo's A Day Hoi An and My Son. See more with our Vietnam tours.

Have you ever had a sunbath in Vietnam beach
Vietnam has a coast line of 3,444 km and, all long that coastline, are beaches, especially in the central and southern areas. Some highly developed; some almost unknown. Most have beautiful white sands and warm clear water, making Vietnam an ideal destination for the beach lover. And don't forget the offshore islands.
The most famous beach area in Vietnam is Nha Trang in the south. Nah Trang has deep, quiet and warm waters all the year round and is surrounded by archipelagos, islands, mountains and white sand beaches. Nah Trang is popular with both Vietnamese and international visitors and the central parts of the beach can be busy, but beaches to the north of town and especially on the outlying islands are much quieter.Bai Tru Beach on Bamboo Island is worth the trip for peace and quiet.
In Nha Trang, you can also find the best seafood restaurants in Vietnam , as well as a number of Indian restaurants. Birds' Nest Soup is a local speciality. Mui Ne, in the south, has fabulous stretches of white sand and is hot and dry almost all year. It is famous for its spectacular sand dunes. Strong sea breezes make it very popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing - though the sea-breezes can sometimes be too strong for sun bathing.
Phu Quoc in the far south is Vietnam's largest, and most beautiful, island. It has mountains, forests and superb sandy beaches perfect for nature lovers as well as sun-seekers. Long Beach is famous and popular and an ideal place to watch the sunset, whereas Ong Lan beach is for the romantics. Some beaches can only be reached by hiking over sandy paths.
The most unspoilt beach in Vietnam is probably the seemingly endless white sand China Beach, outside Danang, in central Vietnam. The area was important during the Vietnam war. This is where US troops landed and met heavy resistance from the Vietcong. Today it has reverted to what it always was - a beautiful beach. The official line is that Cua Dai is the real China Beach, but the locals will tell you that the real China Beach is at My Khe at the northern end, but really its just one long beach.
Some smaller, less well know, and so quieter, beaches include the many on the Con Dao Islands. Their relative isolation have protected them from over-exposure. If the crowds in Nha Trang are too much for you, head up the coast to Doc Let which also has beautiful clean white sand beaches. Vung Tau to Phan Thiet is almost one long beach which remains almost deserted. Best area is Ho Coc, a glorious sandbar about midway along this stretch
In the far south, on the border with Cambodia,is Hai Tien which has some superb beaches. Hon Chong beach has soft white sand and calm waters. The nearby Tien Cave is interesting for its rock formations. Also try white sandy Duong Beach. By boat from Ha Tien you can reach the Hai Tac islets which offer wonderful scuba diving. The larger islets also have lovely beaches - Hon Doc and Nghe Islands in particular.
So, whether you like the excitement of a thriving beach resorts or the pace of a semi-deserted paradise, Vietnam offers them all on its beautiful beaches. Want to take a had a sunbath in Vietnam? Here is an itinerary you may interesting:

Brazil has a population of 168 million and a largely mixed raced society. We have all heard of the famous 'Carnival', and true to the stories it is another must-visit in the capital, Rio de Janeiro.
Spending your holiday at a Northern resort means that you will not be bothered with hundreds or thousands of tourists - unless you travel to a city like Rio de Janeiro. If you like the sound of relaxing on a hammock with a cocktail, watching the amazing colourful birds fly by and going for a stroll on the golden beaches, then Brazil is the destination for you.
Looking for something to do?
Exploring and Water Sports are just two of the many things you can experience whilst on holiday in Brazil. With several stunning excursions to beautiful locations you'll be struggling to fit them all in! However, don't let the gorgeous landscape fool you - the nightlife in Brazil is second to none, with a lively atmosphere and a great range of bars you might find yourself sipping cocktails into the early hours.
What more do you want? Rent a villa or an apartment in the magnificent Brazil and have the time of your life! Visiting the North of Brazil is something that you should do at least once in your lifetime!

Hoi An River
How high will the flood water be in Hoi An Vietnam.?
The river is rising 5 to 8 inches and hour and threatning to be of biblical proportions. Half the town is already under water and this will be my last posting on Q&A until the water goes down or I am evacuated to some where with a working internet. See Ya!!!
My wife and I was in Hoi An about three weeks ago, and it was flooded then. Bach Dang Street was under about a foot of water by that time. The Japanese bridge was still on dry ground, but there wasn't much street above water on the West side of the bridge.
How much of Hoi An will be flooded will depend on how much of the town is below high tide. If you're looking for higher ground, look towards the North end of old town (that's where most of the hotels are). Head towards Da Nang if you want to completely get out of the water.
Good luck!
